June 18, 2025
Construction is underway on Quivira Road between 179th and 187th in Overland Park, Kansas, where crews are hard at work preparing the site for major upgrades that will enhance safety, access, and connectivity throughout the area.
The project includes:
- Construction of two new bridges connecting Quivira Road from 183rd to 187th Street
- Full roadway reconstruction from 179th to 183rd Street
- A new roundabout at 179th Street
- A new two-land divided roadway with shoulder and bike lanes
- Street lighting, curb and gutter, storm sewer improvements, a multi-use trail, and landscape restoration
Currently, crews are focusing on bringing the ground level up an average of 18-20 feet, with as much as 25 feet near Wolf Creek, to create a level base for the new bridge. This phase along requires more than five weeks of hauling, with 18 trucks running in a continuous loop to import over 2,400 cubic yards of earthwork each day.
Following a required settlement period, the next phase will begin with drilled shafts, installation of pilings, and abutment construction as the bridge work gets underway.
