Clarkson has successfully completed the preconstruction phase of the first-ever progressive design-build project for the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). The progressive design-build delivery method allows KDOT and the project team to complete the improvements more quickly than would be expected in a traditional phased delivery approach; additionally, the progressive design-build allows for the flexibility needed to ensure the infrastructure improvements meet the needs of the surrounding developments.
The De Soto Local Road Improvements project will deliver the transportation infrastructure necessary to support the Panasonic Energy Co. electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant currently under construction. The improvements include updating 4.5 miles of the current two-lane asphalt road to a new 4-lane divided roadway with new curbs, gutter, and sidewalks.
Led by senior project manager Kevin Kellerman, the project team began construction operations on Monday, June 12, and will continue through late 2024.
