Project Progress on the Holmes Street Bridge Over I-670
February 11, 2026
Construction is moving ahead on the new pedestrian and bicycle bridge along the Rock Island Trail in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Last week, crews successfully installed several of the bridge spans that will carry trail users safely over the active railroad tracks below.
The bridge is being assembled in a series of carefully coordinated lifts. Each installation requires two bridge sections to be connected on the ground before being lifted together and set onto the bridge caps. Individual sections measure up to 58 feet long, and when paired together, the spans can reach nearly 120 feet across the tracks. Some of the combined lifts weight as much as 92,000 pounds.
In total, 16 bridge sections will be installed to complete the structure.
The new bridge will eliminate the existing at-grade railroad crossing, improving safety and creating a smoother, more enjoyable experience for cyclists, runners, and pedestrians traveling along the trail.
