A new connection is officially open along Missouri's growing statewide trail network! Clarkson Construction recently joined Missouri State Parks, project partners, and community members in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, to celebrate the ribbon cutting and official opening of the Ted & Pat Jones Bridge at Rock Island Trail State Park.
The new bridge provides a safe crossing over active railroad tracks, creating an important connection within Missouri's statewide trail system and improving access for pedestrians, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts.
The project also marks a meaningful milestone for Rock Island Trail State Park, representing the culmination of Ted and Pat Jones' final estate funding dedicated to the trail and continuing legacy of supporting outdoor recreation and community connectivity throughout Missouri.
Building a Bridge, Connecting a Community
Constructing a pedestrian bridge over an active railway requires careful coordination, technical expertise, and an unwavering commitment to safety.
Over 43 weeks of active construction, Clarkson crews worked closely with Missouri State Parks and project partners to navigate the challenges of building above active railroad tracks while maintaining a focus on quality, efficiency, and safe project delivery.
During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Missouri State Parks Director Laura Hendrickson recognized the Clarkson team for its efficiency, collaboration, and skill throughout construction. She also emphasized the importance of partnerships in delivering projects that connect people, strengthen communities, and expand recreational opportunities.
I want to thank the Clarkson crew for the phenominal job they've done. Their efficiency and quality of work have been outstanding, and we're proud to have Clarkson as our contractor.
A New Connection for Missouri Trail Users
From families walking together and young cyclists riding across on training wheels to experienced rider continuing their journeys along the trail, visitors of all ages gathered to experience the new crossing.
The bridge represents an important addition to Missouri's developing trail network, helping create safer, more accessible connections for residents and visitors while supporting the continued growth of outdoor recreation in the region.
For Clarkson, projects like the Ted & Pat Jones Bridge demonstrate how infrastructure can make a lasting difference beyond the construction site. Whether building major highways, local roads, or pedestrian and bicycle connections, the goal remains the same: creating infrastructure that safely connects people and communities.
Clarkson is proud to have contributed to this milestone for Rock Island Trail State Park, and grateful for the collaboration of Missouri State Parks, the City of Pleasant Hill, project partners, and the crews who brought this bridge to life.
