Kansas City Approves Clarkson and JE Dunn as GM/GC for South Loop Project
December 6, 2024Friday marked an exciting milestone for Kansas infrastructure as we celebrated the ribbon cutting for the De Soto Local Road Improvements Project, the Kansas Department of Transportation's (KDOT) first-ever Progressive Design-Build project. Clarkson is incredibly proud to have played a role in this groundbreaking effort to enhance De Soto's infrastructure and support the ongoing growth of Johnson County.
In just 18 months since breaking ground in June 2023, this project has transformed over four miles of roadway into a modern divided four-lane road. Key upgrades include:
- new curb and gutter for improved drainage and durability,
- bike lanes and sidewalks to support active transportation,
- and enhanced lighting to improve visibility and safety.
These improvements are critical in supporting the Panasonic Energy Co. electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant, a major driver of economic development in the region, as well as the future growth and opportunities in the area.
As KDOT's first Progressive Design-Build project, this initiative has set a new standard for collaboration and efficiency. By leveraging this innovative delivery method, we were able to shorten the project timeline and ensure that all lanes were opened to traffic on December 12, 2024, just in time for Panasonic's grand opening next year!
This project wouldn't have been possible without the hard work, dedication, and partnership of countless individuals and organizations. From engineers and construction crews to KDOT officials and community leaders, every partner played a vital role in making this project a success.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible project team and every project partner who contributed to this remarkable achievement. This milestone showcases what is possible when collaboration and innovation come together to build a brighter future for our community. As we celebrate, we look forward to the lasting positive impact this project will have on the City of De Soto and beyond!
