KCI New Terminal Project: Airfield Paving Update
July 22, 2022Phase 3 Underway at Manhattan Regional Airport
June 17, 2023After more than a year of work and 88 acres of concrete poured, the airside paving operations at the Kansas City International Airport (KCI) New Terminal Project have reached substantial completion. When the New Terminal opens in early 2023, the new paving will service as the aircraft apron and ramp, in addition to taxiways to and from the runways.
The airside paving operations included placing nine inches of cement treated base, aggregate base, and lime stabilized soil, all topped with 15-inch-thick concrete. This process ensures the the finished surface can sustain the weight of an aircraft in transit and while parked at passenger gates.
Clarkson is a proud member of the Clark | Weitz | Clarkson joint venture team responsible for building the New Terminal; additionally, the paving operaqtions, lead by St. Joseph, Missouri-based Ideker, Inc., was supported by the Clarkson team.
