The $30 million Waverly Road Project for the City of Edgerton, Kansas adjacent to the BNSF Intermodal Project in Johnson County, Kansas. The City ¬of Edgerton was seeking qualifications from design-build teams for design and construction of Waverly Road generally from Highway 56 to a new connection with 199th Street. The project included construction of approximately three miles of concrete roadway and a grade separation at the BNSF Railway Intermodal tracks leaving the Logistics Park Kansas City to allow uninterrupted freight traffic to and from the intermodal facility.
To facilitate the increase in truck traffic, the existing gravel road was reconstructed with concrete pavement, including two through-lanes and a center turn lane. An overpass was constructed at the intersection of Waverly Road and the lead tracks into the intermodal facility to increase traffic safety.
The City of Edgerton utilized a qualifications-based process to select the design-build team. Clarkson committed to complete this project within the $30 million dollar Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP). Single point contractual responsibility was predetermined as Clarkson Construction took the lead in the response to the RFP. This particular team of Clarkson Construction and HDR had worked together on previous projects, so this partnership was well-established.
