This $1,600,000 project in Weston, Missouri, constructed a BNSF Railroad Bridge on the Kansas City Power and Light main track for coal deliveries to the power plant. The owner permitted a ten-day closure with associated major penalties of $41,000 per day. Construction of the bridge was extremely time critical to the owner as this negated the ability to receive coal during the outage. Clarkson Construction Company worked around the clock and had the track open in 4 ½ days, well ahead of the planned outage. The project consisted of a 460 foot BNSF bridge with 16 bents of precast concrete beams and caps supported by HP 14 x 117 piling. 12,000 cubic yard of excavation was required to construct the bridge along with removing and replacing 1,200 feet of rail and ties.
